American Craftsmanship Since 1946

The Gat Creek story begins with Tom Seely, who opened an antique shop in Baltimore after serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. In the mid 1950s, Seely moved his furniture business to Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

In 1996, West Virginia native Gat Caperton purchased the company with a vision to keep furniture manufacturing in his home state. While other brands moved production overseas, Caperton invested in the Berkeley Springs facility and its workforce.

Sustainably Sourced Appalachian Hardwoods

Gat Creek sources lumber from the Appalachian Forest, one of the most sustainable forests in the world. Trees in the Appalachian mountains grow 2.4 times faster than they are harvested, a trend that has continued for over a century.

Each piece is crafted from your choice of solid cherry, maple, walnut, or ash. These are not veneers or particle board. The company also offers classic paint and hand glazed paint finishes for those who prefer a painted look.

Built by One Craftsman, Start to Finish

Unlike assembly line manufacturing, each piece of Gat Creek furniture is built by a single artisan at their own workbench. That craftsman constructs the entire piece from start to finish, then signs and dates their work.

This approach combines traditional joinery techniques with modern precision equipment. Dovetail joints connect drawer fronts to sides, while mortise and tenon construction joins frames. These time tested methods create furniture built to last generations.
