UPHOLSTERY

General Care

  • Periodically rotate cushions and toss pillows to evenly distribute wear.
  • Avoid placing upholstery in direct sunlight or near heat/moisture sources to prevent fading.
  • Vacuum occasionally using designated attachments.
  • Fabric pilling is normal; a fabric (or “sweater”) shaver can gently remove pills.
  • Trust professional cleaners for deep cleaning as needed.

Cleaning Your Upholstery

Depending on the selected fabric, refer to the following cleaning codes:

Upholstery Cleaning Codes

  • W: Spot clean using water and water-based upholstery shampoo or foam cleaners only.
  • S: Spot clean using water-free solvents only. Do not use water or dry clean.
  • SW/WS: Spot clean using distilled water or water-based cleaning agents. Foam from mild detergent or dry-cleaning solvent may also be used.
  • X: Vacuum or brush lightly with a non-metallic brush. Do not use water or cleaning agents.

General Cleaning Guidelines

  • Follow all instructions carefully when using an upholstery cleaner.
  • Pre-test in a hidden area before full application.
  • Dilute cleaners with distilled water and avoid over-saturating.
  • Blot with an absorbent, undyed cloth from the outside in.
  • Avoid scrubbing or using hard-bristled brushes.

Caring for Specialty Fabrics & Leathers

Leather

  • Dust with a dry cloth or wipe with an undyed cloth dampened with distilled water.
  • Use wax-free leather cleaner and conditioner as needed.
  • Blot oil-based spills with a clean, undyed cloth.
  • Spot clean other spills with mild soap and distilled water, then blot and air dry.
  • Avoid harsh cleaners, abrasives, ammonia, silicone, or cleaners meant for suede/nubuck.

Crypton® Home Performance Fabrics

  • Clean with clear, mild detergent and water. Do not bleach.
  • For tough stains, use a soft brush and blot with a towel. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.

Performance Fabrics

  • Blot spills immediately.
  • For small stains, mix 1 cup of water with ¼ tsp clear detergent.
  • Spray, blot, rinse thoroughly, and air dry.

Hair on Hide

  • Vacuum lightly using an upholstery attachment.
  • Spot clean with a soft-bristle brush and mild soap/water.

WOOD & WICKER

General Care

  • Spot clean sealed wood with mild soap, water, and a soft cloth. Dry immediately.
  • Dust lacquered wood with a dry cloth and non-wax furniture polish.
  • Clean glass with glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
  • Avoid abrasives, harsh chemicals, and overapplication of products.
  • Wipe spills immediately to prevent moisture damage.
  • Use coasters, trivets, and felt pads to protect surfaces.
  • Lift—don’t drag—furniture. Avoid direct sunlight and uneven flooring.

Specialty Wood

Reclaimed & Antique Wood

  • Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Occasionally apply furniture wax along the grain. Buff to desired sheen.

Hand-Painted Wood

  • Dust with a soft, clean, undyed cloth.
  • Use transparent beeswax occasionally to maintain finish.

Rattan & Handwoven Wicker

  • Spot clean with a damp cloth.
  • Dust occasionally and vacuum as needed.
  • Do not stand on seats.

METAL & STONE

Metal

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Wipe spills immediately.
  • Avoid ammonia, silicone, abrasives, and corrosive chemicals.
  • Use coasters and trivets to protect finishes.

Stone

  • Spot clean with a damp cloth, mild soap, and water. Dry with a soft cloth.
  • Occasionally use stone-specific cleaning products.
  • Avoid acidic agents (lemon, vinegar), ammonia, and silicone.

  • Don’t allow standing water on surfaces or cushions.

Outdoor Fabrics & Cushions

  • Store cushions during inclement weather.
  • Rotate cushions periodically.
  • Brush or vacuum weekly.
  • Spot clean with mild soap and water. Rinse and air dry.
  • For mildew, use a 10:1 diluted bleach solution on InsideOut® fabrics.
  • Flip cushions during drying; do not use a dryer.

All-Weather Wicker & Performance Weave

  • Dust or vacuum weekly.
  • Spot clean with hose or mild soap and water.
  • Safe for pressure washing (1200–1400 psi).

Teak

Premium Solid Teak

  • Dust and polish gently.
  • Avoid abrasives, ammonia, silicone, or pressure cleaners.

Grade A Natural Teak

  • Color will fade to silvery-grey over time.
  • Use covers when not in use.
  • Clean stains gently and follow fabric care instructions.
  • Scrub with soft brush and mild dish soap.

Finished Teak

  • May fade over time. Use covers to protect it.
  • Small imperfections will weather naturally.

Reclaimed Wood

  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Apply furniture wax as needed, then buff.

Powder-Coated Aluminum

  • Dust weekly with a dry cloth.
  • Hose off or brush debris. Dry with a soft cloth.
  • Clean with mild soap and water.
  • Avoid impact and sharp objects.

Concrete & Reconstructed Stone

  • Spot clean with mild soap and water.
  • Avoid acidic and abrasive cleaners.
  • Protect edges and surfaces from impact.

RUGS

General Care

  • Consult a professional cleaner for deep cleaning.
  • Pre-test cleaners on a hidden area.
  • Blot spills immediately with lukewarm water and mild soap.
  • Use rug pads and rotate rugs every 3 months.
  • Vacuum with handheld, brushless attachments.
  • Shedding and fiber sprouting are normal; trim, don’t pull.

Wool Rugs

  • Use wool-safe products only.
  • Shedding is normal and decreases over time.

Natural Fiber Rugs

  • Vacuum on low power from various directions.

Performance Rugs

  • Blot stains with a dry cloth.
  • For tough stains: 1 part bleach to 2 parts water (only on 100% polyester rugs).
  • Rinse and air dry.
  • Avoid standing water or heavy rain.

Viscose & Viscose-Blend Rugs

  • Not for high-traffic areas.
  • Vacuum with low power, no beater bars.
  • Blot stains gently; do not rub.
  • Avoid excess heat and moisture.

Hides

  • Vacuum with suction only—no bristles.
  • Shake debris out regularly.
  • Blot with mild soap and water as needed.

BEDDING & MATTRESSES

Bedding

  • Follow care labels on individual pieces.

Mattresses & Box Springs

  • Spot clean with mild soap and water.
  • Use a mattress protector.
  • Rotate one-sided mattresses every 6 months.
  • Vacuum annually.

DÉCOR

Pillows, Covers & Throws

  • Follow care labels.
  • Spot clean by blotting; never scrub.
  • For deep cleaning, use professional services.

Lighting, Mirrors & Wall Art

  • Dust with a feather duster or soft cloth.
  • Clean glass gently with glass cleaner.
